W.W.C.C.A. RANGE RULES AND REGULATIONS

SAFETY APPLIED AND RULES ENFORCED WILL PREVENT ACCIDENTS.

This document ONLY contains the WWCCA Range Rules, if you want a copy of the WWCCA Qualification Rules; please ask for one at the Signin Window.

All members and guests of WWCCA members, shooting on any range, shall abide by the following rules:

GENERAL RULES FOR ALL RANGES

1. These Range Rules SUPERSEDE all previously published Range Rules.

2. EAR and EYE protection MUST be worn by everyone at all times except on the Archery Ranges; Ear protection is Optional on the Air Gun Ranges.

3. All shooters must first sign in at the clubhouse and at the Signin Window (1) exchange your Membership Card for a Range Gate Key, (2) show your Qualification Card and obtain the proper Arm Band from the Custodian, (3) pay any Range Fees.

4. A Range Safety Officer is a Club Member who has taken the RSO Class and is in possession of a WWCCA Qualification Card with the Date and RSO Class Instructor’s Name filled in.

5. There must be a Range Safety Officer (hereafter referred to as a RSO) in attendance at all times on ALL Ranges, Shotgun Pattern Board and Black Powder Walkthru while in use.

EXCEPTION – Shotgun Fields where non-members must be with either a RSO or Qualified Trap/Skeet Puller.

6. Violation of any Range Rule or destruction of Club Property by a member, or a member’s guest, will subject the member to appear before the Designated Range Safety Officer Committee (hereafter referred to as the DRSO Committee).

7. Effective March 25, 1991, the DRSO Committee is empowered to restrict range use, pending action from the Board of Directors, of any member found violating range rules.

8. SHOOTING HOURS:

Monday – Saturday – 10:00AM to 5:45PM or Dusk, whichever occurs first

Sunday – 10:00AM to 7:45PM or Dusk, whichever occurs first

9. Obey instantly all cease fire commands from any person on the range.

10. All persons shall remain behind the RED Firing Line/Station until cease-fire and all clear commands are given.

11. A range shall be closed to any shooting while a scheduled work party is in progress.

12. Firearms shall be cased or the actions open while on club property. Actions shall be open and firearms unloaded except while firing.

EXCEPTION – Break Open Shotguns or Barrel Breaker Air Guns while in racks.

13. All shooting shall be at paper targets. Any Paper Targets which are used by Bianchi, IDPA, IPSC, or USPSA Competitions may be used. No OTHER Human Silhouette or Human Likeness Targets may be used at any time. Spinning or reactive targets plus Dueling Trees may be used ONLY on the 25 Yard Range.

EXCEPTION – WWCCA Board Approved Matches or Practice Sessions.

14. Shooters shall shoot only at targets directly in front of their shooting position.

15. Shooters shall clean their respective target area and firing point and shall remove targets and spent cases before leaving the range.

16. A guest, shooting on any range, must be supervised on that range by the sponsoring member.

17. An inexperienced shooter must be supervised at all times by a RSO.

18. Any arms or ammunition deemed unsafe by the RSO shall be removed from the firing line.

19. No alcoholic beverages shall be carried or consumed on any range or parking area during shooting hours. (Refer to Rule #8 above)

20. No person deemed under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance by the RSO shall be permitted on any of the ranges during shooting hours.

21. No explosive items are to be put in trash cans. (i.e. unfired rounds, aerosol cans, or empty black powder cans)

22. No smoking within 25 feet of Black Powder on the firing line.

23. Inexperienced shooters must be supervised directly by a non-shooting RSO. The RSO cannot fire while the Inexperienced shooter is firing.

24. Safety is the responsibility of every shooter. Members observing infractions of any safety rule shall immediately bring the facts to the attention of the person involved.

25. The bar will be closed during all indoor range use.

26. All shooters, while on the ranges, must display appropriate Qualification Card AND wear proper ARMBAND.

27. If questions should arise concerning any of the ranges, please contact the Custodian.

28. Whenever there is a SCHEDULED activity on one of our ranges, non-participating club members will be allowed to shoot on that range based on space availability.

29. All guns shall remain open and left on the bench or racks and not handled when anyone is forward of the RED Firing Line.

30. All persons who do not proceed downrange shall remain behind the YELLOW Safety Line or a minimum of six (6) feet behind the shooting positions.

31. Firearms shall be pointed at the backstop when closing the action or when the action is closed.

32. Fingers shall be outside the Trigger Guard until the shooter is on target and the safety will be turned on when not shooting.

33. Firearms must be raised to the target before firing, not lowered from some point above.

34. Slug Guns will be treated as a Centerfire Rifle. SMOOTH Bore Shotguns firing Rifled Slugs must be fired at 50 Yards or less. Rifled Bore Shotguns firing SABOTS must be fired at 100 Yards or less.

35. Field Loads may ONLY be fired at the Shotgun Patterning Board.

36. When setting up a Chronograph or Range/Wind Flags, while people are in front of the RED Firing Line, the Rifle’s Bolt MUST BE REMOVED or an Open Bolt Indicator or Empty Chamber Indicator MUST be inserted into the Rifle’s Chamber.

37. All rounds MUST be safely fired into the Impact Berms.

38. A member may have an unlimited number of Guests with a MAXIMUM of THREE Guests shooting at any one time.

EXCEPTION – WHEN SHOOTING ON THE SHOTGUN FIELDS.

39. Any Club member, found guilty of a Range Rule Safety Violation by a DRSO Sub-Committee, shall be required to pay a fine of not less than $50.00 and not more than $75.00. A Club member who refuses to pay this fine shall lose their Club Privileges for Three Months (First Offense), Six Months (Second Offense), and Lifetime (Third Offense).

40. If the RED Safety Lights are on, no one may touch or fire their firearms.

41. Slings must be worn by all shooters while shooting rapid fire. HASTY Slings may NOT be used.

42. No member may multi-load and shoot Offhand on the 200 Yard Range.

*43. All Rifles may be loaded with a maximum of five (5) rounds, but must be fired from the position for which you have a qualification signature. Shooting must be in slow fire mode, except members who have a Rapid Fire Qualification, and must be limited to a maximum of one shot every 5 seconds. No guest will be allowed to multi-load.

EXCEPTION – When supervised by a DRSO or in possession of a 200 Yard Rapid Fire Signature. Eight (8) rounds maximum loaded per magazine.

44. There will be no pointing or sighting of firearms in the Club House.

NOTE: The “*” (Asterisk) before the Range Rule Number indicates that the rule is owned by the WWCCA General Membership and the WWCCA DRSO Committee does NOT have the authority to change it.

NOTE: The gate to the 25, 50, 100 and 200 Yard Ranges should always be closed and locked except when a Match or a Work Party is being held on one of the ranges. The Event Chairman will close the gate when leaving the range.

25 YARD RANGE RULES

1. All applicable General Range Rules apply to the 25 Yard Range plus the following specific rules.

2. ONLY Club Members and Registered Guests may shoot a Handgun on this Range from either the Bench or Offhand/Standing Position.

3. All Handguns, Rimfire Rifles, Black Powder Handguns, and Black Powder Rifles may be fired on this range. All Centerfire Rifles which are legal for Cowboy Action Shooting Matches may be fired on this range. All other Centerfire Rifles may only be fired on this range for Sighting In purposes, with a maximum of five shots (unless authorized by a DRSO).

4. Handguns may be loaded to their maximum capacity.

5. Targets are to be placed within the designated Target Area.

6. It is acceptable to shoot only at the designated shooting line. The allowed fixed shooting lines are at the 10, 15, 20, or 25 Yard Shooting Lines.

EXCEPTION – IT IS PERMITTED TO SHOOT ANYWHERE AT OR FORWARD OF THE 10 YARD LINE. THE SHOOTER MUST DETERMINE WHAT IS CONSIDERED THE SAFEST AND CLOSET SHOOTING LINE IN FRONT OF THE TARGET PRIOR TO SHOOTING.

7, When a member enters this range and another member or members have an established shooting distance, a gentleman’s agreement should be agreed upon as to where the firing line will be.  If an agreement cannot be reached, then the member occupying the range first shall designate the firing line for a period of 30 minutes, at which time the next member shall be allowed to designate a new firing line. Shooting from two differing shooting lines within the same time frame is strictly forbidden.

8. When there are Shooting Coaches or Spectators, they must always be behind the active shooter and never immediately next to or in front of the active shooting line.

9. When placing a Handgun on a Bench, it must be UNLOADED WITH ACTIONS OPEN and placed in a safe position with the muzzle pointing down range.

10. ONLY WWCCA Members, with a Cowboy Action Shooting Qualification Signature, may shoot any rifle which is legal for Cowboy Action Shooting, and may load it up to and including 10 Rounds and fire it as quickly as Cowboy Action Shooting Rules dictate.

11. Only WWCCA Members with a 25 Yard Range Draw from a Holster Qualification Signature may draw a handgun from a holster on this range.

50 YARD RANGE RULES

1. All applicable General Range Rules apply to the 50 Yard Range plus the following specific rules.

2. A Registered Guest may shoot a Handgun or Rifle on this Range from the Bench.

3. Members must shoot Pistols and Rifles from the Bench unless they are carrying the proper Qualification Card.

4. A Qualification Signature is required for shooting any Firearm in the Offhand Position from the 50 Yard Range.

EXCEPTION – When supervised by a DRSO.

5 Handguns, Black Powder Rifles, Center Fire Rifles under 1800 F.P.S. and Rimfire Rifles shall have preference on this range.

6. Handguns may be loaded to their maximum capacity.

7. Shotguns may be fired on this range with slugs only, loaded one round at a time. No shot shells allowed at any time.

8. Firearms with less than 4 Inch Barrels may NOT be fired on this Range.

9. Center Fire Rifles over 1800 F.P.S. may be shot on this range from the Bench Position only.

10. When participating in a Falling Plates Match, the ACTIVE SHOOTERS are permitted to holster their UNLOADED Handguns while moving equipment between the 10 Yard Line and the 25 Yard Line. Once firing at the 25 Yard Line is completed, the ACTIVE SHOOTERS must return their UNLOADED Handguns to its case.

11 No firearm shall be fired on this range until it has been sighted in at the 25 Yard Range.

12. ONLY WWCCA Members, with a Cowboy Action Shooting Qualification Signature, may shoot any rifle which is legal for Cowboy Action Shooting, and may load it up to and including 10 Rounds and fire it as quickly as Cowboy Action Shooting Rules dictate.

100 YARD RANGE RULES

1. All applicable General Range Rules apply to the 100 Yard Range plus the following specific rules.

2. Centerfire or Rimfire Position shooting shall only be allowed on this range by those members with proper Qualification Card or under the supervision of a DRSO.

3. Only members with the proper Qualification Signature are allowed to fire a handgun on this range.

4. No firearm shall be fired on this range until it has been sighted in at the 50 Yard Range.

200 YARD RANGE RULES

1. All applicable General Range Rules apply to the 200 Yard Range plus the following specific rules.

2. Only members with a proper Qualification Signature are allowed to fire on this range. No guest is permitted to shoot on this range at any time.

3. No firearm shall be fired on this range until it has been sighted in at the 100-yard line.

4. No Rimfire Firearms are allowed to be shot on this range.

EXCEPTION – WWCCA Approved Matches or Practice Sessions.

5. Position shooting shall be allowed on this range by those members with proper Qualification Signature.

EXCEPTION – WWCCA Approved Matches or Practice Sessions.

6. Only members with a proper Qualification Signature may fire a handgun on this range.

Black Powder Range Rules – Rifles and Handguns

1. All applicable General Range Rules apply to the Black Powder Range plus the following specific rules.

2. No Black Powder allowed in the clubhouse.

3. No smoking within 25 feet while Black Powder is in use.

4. No pouring of Black Powder directly out of a powder can, horn, or flask directly into a Musket, Rifle, or Handgun. Separate powder measures are to be used at all times. A Black Powder Firearm may have “glowing embers’ inside the barrel, if you pour directly from a large quantity of Black Powder, you run the risk of having a major explosion.

5. Keep all powder containers closed and properly stored.

6. No arms will be capped or primed until the shooter has taken position on the firing line.

7. If a shooter experiences a misfire or other malfunction, keep the firearm pointed down range at least one minute, then uncap or deprime the firearm, correct the problem, or seek qualified assistance.

8. Double-barrel rifles will be loaded only one barrel at a time.

EXCEPTION – Both barrels may be loaded if authorized by a DRSO.

9. It is the duty of shooters using flint locks or vented cap locks to exercise caution for the safety of his fellow shooters on the firing line. (Flash Guards are appreciated).

Black Powder Shotgun Rules

1. All applicable General Range Rules apply to Black Powder Shotgun plus the following specific rules.

2. A Three (3) Dram or 82 Grain MAXIMUM load is allowed in Black Powder Shotguns.

3. All other Black Powder loading and safety rules will apply. (I.E. smoking, capping and priming, etc.)

Black Powder Walk-Through Range

1. All applicable General Range Rules apply to the Black Powder Walk-through Range plus the following specific rules.

2. Smoking is allowed ONLY at fire pit.

3. Powder Horns and Flasks must be hung on racks or tree while at the fire pit.

4. Posted rules shall be adhered to when on this range.

5. Cloth Patched Round Ball only to be used on this range.

6. Shooters shall qualify for use of range by shooting with a Black Powder QUALIFIED DRSO.

General Skeet, Trap, and 5 Stand Rules

1. All shotguns shall be carried with the actions open or cased. In the Club House, shotguns shall be placed, with actions open, in a case, on a table, or in the rack.

2. Eye and Ear Protection is required, for everyone, while on the Shotgun Ranges.

3. Shot size allowed is 7 1/2, 8 or 9 and a three (3) Dram equivalent is maximum allowed.

4. Shotguns are loaded only when you are on station and ready to fire. When changing Stations, all Actions MUST be Open and UNLOADED.

5. All Shotguns are loaded singularly unless otherwise called for in the course of fire.

6. All Shotguns will be pointed down range when loaded or unloading.

7. Skeet, Trap, and 5 Stand Houses shall not be entered or operated by persons who are not authorized or under the supervision of an authorized person. Indicating devices (i.e., RED Stop Signs or ORANGE Traffic Cones) showing house is occupied must be displayed when servicing machines on the Trap Fields. The Bird Launching Machines inside the Skeet, Trap and 5 Stand Houses are extremely dangerous and you can be injured if you do not follow the proper procedure for re-filling them.

8. Non-shooters are allowed on the ranges only in a coaching capacity. Non-shooters must stay on or beyond (West) Walkway.

9. Empty shells may be picked up at the end of the line.

10. No hand held traps are allowed on club grounds, unless authorized by the Board.

11. Amateur Trapshooting Association and National Skeet Shooters Association rules will apply at all Club Shoots.

12. No sharing of Firearms is allowed on the same Trap Line or 5 Stand Position.

.410 Shot Shell – Handgun Rules

1. Only LEGAL handguns with a MINIMUM Barrel Length of 10” may be used.

2. Only handguns chambered in .410 Shotgun may be used.

3. .410 Cartridges must be loaded and fired ONE round at a time.

4. The handgun must remain in its case while in the Club House or being transported to the Skeet/Trap Fields

5. A Two-Hand Hold must be used when shooting these Handguns.

6. Trap must be fired from the 10-yard line. All shooters must fire from the 10-yard line.

7. Skeet may be fired from the normal stations.

Outdoor Air Gun rules

1. All applicable General Range Rules apply to the Outdoor Air Gun Range plus the following specific rules.

2. All Air Gun Shooting shall be at paper targets.

EXCEPTION – WWCCA Approved Matches or Practice Sessions.

3. No unsupervised shooting of air guns by minors shall be allowed at any time.

4. All air gun shooting shall be on approved air gun ranges.

5. Air gun ammunition shall be limited to lead pellets only when used on hard surfaced targets or target carriers.

6. Air Gun Walk-through Range shall be closed except for designated matches or designated practices.

7. The air gun range is designed for air guns only. Use of any other arms will subject the violator to a mandatory appearance before the WWCCA DRSO Range Safety Committee.

8. Transporting an Air Gun (when NOT on the Firing Line) on Club Property must be carried in one of the following manners:

  • In a case.
  • Pre-charged Air Guns must have the Loading Port OPEN.
  • Barrel Breaker Air Guns must have barrels UNLATCHED.
  • Side Lever and Under Lever Air Guns must have the Cocking Lever OPEN until Spring Tension is felt.

9. During Fun Shoots and Open Air Gun Shooting, any Air Gun up to .25 Caliber with a maximum power of 45 Foot Pounds may be used. Air Guns with a magazine may be used.

Archery Stand Up Range rules

1. All arrows shall be pointed at the target area when nocked and/or when shooting.

2. A maximum of six (6) arrows per flight will be permitted unless shooting alone.

3. No running or horseplay will be allowed on the archery range.

4. All arrows must be carried in quivers.

5. No broad heads will be shot at or into target bales or mats. Only approved broad head butts shall be used.

Indoor Archery Range Rules

1. Ranges will be run according to National Archery Association Whistle Commands as follows:

  • 2 blows on the whistle —- shooters on the line
  • 1 blow on the whistle —- nock and shoot
  • 3 blows on the whistle —- all clear
  • 4 blows on the whistle —- STOP EMERGENCY!

2. Time limit will be enforced as per National Archery Association.

3. No open shooting.

4. All doors will be secured as per Junior Olympic Archery Development Shooting Rules.

5. Number of shooters will be limited to size of building.

Example: 2 lines of 15 shooters for a total of 30.

6. Poundage of bow is limited to SIXTY (60) Pounds.

7. A RSO must be in attendance when indoor shooting is in progress.

Archery 3D Range rules

1. No shots shall be taken except from designated stands and/or stakes and only at designated targets.

2. Shooters must stay on the designated trails.

3. Shooters will have the responsibility of being absolutely sure the preceding party is completely clear of the area before shooting.

4. If you have a miss on the target, you may not look for the arrow outside of a 15-foot radius of the target.

5. If two or more persons are at the same target, one person shall remain at the shooting station while others are looking for lost arrows.

6. When shooting alone, you must stand your bow in front of the target when looking for lost arrows to inform other shooters that you are in the vicinity of the target.

7. No altering of natural brush to clear your shooting line.

8. No more than two (2) shooters at any time on shooting platforms or stairs.

Qualification Requirements

GENERAL RULES FOR ALL QUALIFICATIONS

1. All qualification shooting MUST be done under the supervision of a DRSO.

2. All qualifications must be signed and dated by a DRSO except the Rapid Fire Qualifications, which may ONLY be signed and dated by the Rifle Chairmen.

3. All qualification PRACTICE Sessions MUST be supervised by a DRSO.

4. A Position Qualification at a specific distance also qualifies for that same position at all shorter distances.

5. A Bipod or cinched sling may be used in the Prone, Sitting or Kneeling Positions.

HANDGUN QUALIFICATION RULES

(Metallic cartridge and Black Powder)

1. Each caliber and position that you qualify with must be on your Qualification Card in order to shoot on the 50 Yard Range, the 100 Yard Range, and the 200 Yard Range. Qualifying with any Caliber means you are automatically qualified with any SMALLER caliber as defined by the chart in Appendix A. For example, If you Qualify with a .44MAG Handgun, you be qualified with any .45 or SMALLER Caliber as defined by the chart in Appendix A.

2. To shoot a handgun OFFHAND on the 50 Yard Range, you must shoot 10 shots at 50 yards OFFHAND at a MR52 Target with a minimum score of 70 points with all shots in or touching the scoring rings.

3. To shoot a handgun on the 100 Yard Range, you must shoot 10 shots at 100 yards at a SR-C Target with a minimum score of 80 points, with all shots in or touching the scoring rings.

4. To shoot a handgun on the 200 Yard Range, you must shoot 10 shots at 200 yards at a SR-C Target with a minimum score of 70 points, with all shots in or touching the scoring rings. No Rim fire Handguns are permitted to attempt this qualification.

5. No multi-loading allowed for handguns on the 100 and 200 Yard Ranges.

6. Only members with proper Qualification Signature may fire a handgun on the 100 and 200 Yard Ranges.

CENTERFIRE AND RIMFIRE RIFLES QUALIFICATION RULES

1. Center Fire and Rim Fire Rifles must be qualified separately. Qualification in any Center Fire Caliber will qualify you for all Center Fire Calibers.

2. To shoot a rifle from the 50 Yard Range, OFFHAND, you must shoot 10 shots at 50 yards at a B-8 Target, OFFHAND, with a score of 70 or better with all shots in or touching the scoring rings.

3. To position shoot on the 100 Yard Range, you must shoot 10 shots in each position at 100 yards with a minimum score of 70 with all shots in or touching the scoring rings. Separate targets must be used for each position. A B-8 Target is to be used for all positions.

4. To shoot a rifle on the 200 Yard Range, Bench Position, you must shoot 10 shots from the bench at 200 yards at a MR52 Target. You must score 70 or better, with all shots in or touching the scoring rings.

5. To Position shoot on the 200 Yard Range, you must shoot 10 shots in each position at 200 yards with a minimum score of 70 on a SR Target for OFFHAND and SITTING and a SR-42 Target for PRONE, with all shots in or touching the scoring rings. Separate targets must be used for each position. These Targets may be obtained from the Custodian.

6. A 200 Yard Range Rapid-fire Signature is available to qualified members only.

You must see the Rifle Chairmen to obtain this card.

OUTDOOR AIRGUN QUALIFICATION RULES

1. To shoot a high velocity (over 600 f.p.s.) air gun outdoors, in the Offhand Position, the shooter must qualify by shooting a ten (10) shot group offhand at a A-23 (50 Yard Smallbore Rifle) Target at a distance of 33 feet. The score must be 70% or better with all shots in the scoring rings.

EXCEPTION – WWCCA Approved Matches or Practice Sessions.

BLACK POWDER RIFLES QUALIFICATION RULES

1. To shoot a Black Powder Rifle, OFFHAND, from the 50 Yard Range, you must shoot 5 shots, OFFHAND, at 50 yards at a B-8 Target with a score of 35 or better with all shots in the scoring rings.

2. To shoot a Black Powder Rifle, OFFHAND, from the 100 Yard Range, you must shoot 5 shots, OFFHAND, at the 100 Yard Line at a B-8 Target with a score of 35 or better with all shots in the scoring rings.

3. To shoot a Black Powder Rifle on the 200 Yard Range, you must qualify with the Black Powder Chairman.

4. A copy of the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association Rules is available at the clubhouse for REFERENCE ONLY.

COWBOY ACTION SHOOTING QUALIFICATION

1. ONLY Rifles which are legal for the Cowboy Action Shooting may be used. The only Calibers which may be used are the pistol calibers (.45 Long Colt, .44 Special, .38, and .32) with a maximum of 1400 FPS.

2. Show proof that you have participated in one Cowboy Action Shooting Match within the past 12 months.

3. Qualification shall consist of firing 10 rounds in 25 seconds from an Offhand/Standing position at 25 Yards.

4. Use a MR52 Target (which is for sale at the Signin Window), all shots must be inside the number 6 scoring ring.

25 YARD RANGE DRAW FROM A HOLSTER QUALIFICATION

1. Attend and pass a class similar to the NRA Personal Protection OUTSIDE the Home Class. The list of WWCCA DRSO Approved Classes is in the Incident Book viewable at the Signin Window. Present your Certificate of Completion from any class contained on the List of WWCCA DRSO Approved Classes.

2. Demonstrate the SAFE technique by which you will be drawing your concealed handgun on the Range.

3. Only DRSO’s who have passed the PPOTH Class may sign this qualification.

Qualifications for a Rapid Fire CARD

To issue a 200 Yard Range Rapid Fire Signature, the following qualifications must be met by firing on the 200 Yard Range:

1. Show National Rifle Association High Power Rifle Expert (or higher) Classification Card, or shoot two (2) qualification matches. The course of fire will be the current Summer League Course of Fire.

2. Each Qualification Round will have a minimum score of 84% (Sharpshooter Score).

3. Qualification can be achieved on special qualification days as set up by the Rifle Chairman or during any Rapid Fire match supervised by the Rifle Chairman.

4. Eight (8) rounds maximum loaded magazine per N.R.A. Match Regulations.

5. Targets to be shot are S.R. for OFFHAND slow fire and SITTING rapid and SR-42 for PRONE rapid.

6. Rapid, sustained fire, or multi-loading is not permitted in the OFFHAND position.

7. Slings must be worn while shooting in the SITTING and PRONE position.

APPENDIX A
